The Covenant of Privacy: Protecting the Sanctuary

In the Big Orange Oasis, your privacy is not just a legal requirement; it is a sacred covenant. Grounded in the Black radical tradition, I recognize that for many in our community—especially Black, Queer, Trans, and Neurodivergent folks—the “record” has historically been used as a tool of surveillance and harm.

At this practice, we utilize the highest standards of protection not to “comply” with the state, but to ensure that your testimony remains yours.

I. Our HIPAA Commitment

My office operates in full compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. While these are federal standards designed to protect your health information, I view them as the minimum threshold.

In this Oasis, we use HIPAA-compliant, encrypted platforms (like PracticeBetter and Greenspace) to ensure that your clinical “geography” is shielded from unauthorized eyes. We do not just follow the law; we prioritize your dignity.

II. Digital Ethics & Website Usage

When you visit this digital sanctuary, we treat your presence with respect.

  • No Data Commodification: We do not sell, rent, trade, or disseminate your personal information to external corporations or third parties. We reject the “data-mining” of the modern web.

  • Internal Stewardship: We reserve the right to use anonymous information for internal tracking and statistical analysis (such as determining the number of “Deep-Sea Divers” visiting the site or which radical resources are most accessed). This data is used solely to improve the Oasis and is never linked to your identity.

  • Digital Boundaries: By continuing to browse this site, you agree to use the information found here for healing and liberation—not for any purpose that is illegal, unethical, or prohibited by copyright. You enter this digital space at your own risk, with the understanding that we have built this sanctuary to be as secure as the current technology allows.

III. Links to the Wider World

As a scholar and Professor, I often provide links to external organizations, radical texts, and peer-led resources (such as Blackline or Trans Lifeline).

Please be aware that while I vet these resources for their clinical and ethical alignment, they are independent entities. They are not covered under this Covenant of Privacy. Once you leave the Oasis via an external link, that organization is solely responsible for their own security, terms of use, and privacy practices.

IV. Transparency & The State

Transparency is a core value of this practice. For a full understanding of where this digital privacy intersects with state-mandated reporting (such as the protection of children, elders, or imminent threats of harm), please review our standalone Safety, Sanctuary, & Liberation Policy.
