Crisis Helplines
The Resource Sanctuary: Holding the Line
In the Big Orange Oasis, we know that the world is often a site of storm and surveillance. If you are feeling hopeless, overwhelmed by the “head trash,” or simply need a witness to hold space with you, the following resources have been curated for their alignment with our values of autonomy and liberation.
“You are worth the struggle it takes to keep you here. We build this network not because you are ‘broken,’ but because the world is.” — Doc
Sanctuary & Crisis Support (Anti-Carceral)
Standard crisis lines often involve mandatory police intervention. These resources prioritize your autonomy and aim to provide support without involving carceral systems whenever possible.
Blackline (1-800-604-5841): 24/7 peer support and crisis counseling through a Black, queer, and trans-feminist lens.
Trans Lifeline (877-565-8860): Peer support for trans people, by trans people. They have a strict no-police-intervention policy.
988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988. Note: While a national standard, be aware that 988 may still involve law enforcement in certain jurisdictions.
The Trevor Project (1-866-488-7386): Specialized crisis support for LGBTQ+ young adults.
Harm Reduction & Substance Use
We reject moralistic “compliance” models. These resources center your safety, dignity, and survival.
Never Use Alone (1-800-484-3731): A vital harm reduction tool. They stay on the line with you while you use to ensure someone can call for help if you become unresponsive.
SAMHSA National Helpline (1-800-662-HELP): A confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service.
Harm Reduction Coalition: Resources and advocacy for the rights of people who use drugs.
Peer Support Groups: In the Oasis, we value the “Squire” and the “Witness.” Seek out local peer-led harm reduction spaces that honor your lived experience.
Relational Safety & Protection of the Vulnerable
If you are navigating domestic violence, sexual assault, or elder abuse, these organizations provide empowerment-based advocacy.
National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE): 24/7 support for those experiencing domestic transition or harm.
RAINN National Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-656-HOPE): Confidential support for survivors of sexual violence.
Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-4-A-CHILD): For the protection of the most vulnerable among us.
National Center on Elder Abuse (1-800-677-1116): Dedicated to the dignity and safety of our elders.
Neuro-Liberation & Intellectual Support
For the doctoral students, the neurodivergent “unmaskers,” and those navigating TBI recovery.
Project LETS: Peer-led support and disability justice for folks with lived experience of mental illness and neurodivergence.
ULifeline: A specialized directory for college and graduate students to navigate campus mental health and self-assessment.
ADHD & Autism Affirming Networks: We prioritize community that doesn’t ask you to “perform” neurotypical wellness.
Sexual Health & Bodily Autonomy
Planned Parenthood (1-800-230-PLAN): For comprehensive sexual health care and the defense of reproductive freedom.
National AIDS Hotline (1-800-342-AIDS): Specialized information and support for those living with HIV/AIDS.
Our Agreement on Emergencies
In this practice, we prioritize Community-Based Safety. If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency (such as a TBI-related seizure or overdose), call your doctor or medical responders immediately.
However, if you are experiencing a mental health crisis, we encourage you to first utilize your Oasis Network (your Witness, Grounder, or Squire) or the Anti-Carceral Crisis Supports listed above. Our goal is to keep you in the “land of the living” while causing the least amount of carceral harm to you and your people.
